The definitions of the IoT categories are as follows

IoT Components: Companies that manufacture the internal technologies of IoT hardware systems. Examples include IoT circuit boards, chips, and semiconductors.

IoT Drones and Robotics: Companies that create unmanned aerial vehicles that could be controlled through remotes or smartphone apps. Examples include aerial cameras, aerial delivery drones, and ocean data collection robots.

IoT Education and Toys: Companies that produce connected devices that facilitate the education process or those aimed at the kids market. Examples include app-connected toys, programmable bracelets, and computer building kits.

IoT Enterprise: Companies that create connected devices to enhance the productivity of corporate enterprises. Examples include product management solutions, business intelligence platforms, and smartglasses for work.

IoT Fitness: Companies that create connected devices that track fitness and exercise metrics. Examples include healthy eating trackers, exercise tracking wristbands, and smartphone-controlled shoes.

IoT Hardware Platforms: Companies that manufacture finished hardware systems that provide infrastructural support for connected devices. Examples include IoT routers, modems, and device controllers.

IoT Health Care: Companies that create connected devices that track health metrics or help improve health well-being. Examples include breathing mobile games, sleep trackers, and pain relief wearables.

IoT Home: Internet of Things devices focused on the residential real estate segment. Solutions include home security, home automation, and energy management.

IoT Industrial: Companies that create connected devices to enhance the productivity of industrial enterprises such as manufacturing. Examples include industrial data analysis, supply chain management, and factory robots.

IoT Lifestyle and Entertainment: Companies that create connected devices to enhance the overall lifestyle of the user. Examples include connected bikes, outdoor gaming systems, and smart mugs.

IoT Retail: Companies that create connected devices to help with retail stores’ operations. Examples include store beacon solutions, mobile payment solutions, and smart barcode scanners.

IoT Security: Companies that enable data privacy and data encryption. Examples include IoT vulnerability detection, industrial IoT security, and IoT data erasure.

IoT Smart Watches: Companies that create connected watches with sensors and applications. Examples include motion recognition watches, parental control watches, and voice notification watches.

IoT Software Platforms: Companies that build backend software systems that provide infrastructural support for IoT technology. Examples include wireless communication networks and IoT data analytics platforms.

IoT Tags and Jewelry: Companies that create tags, trackers, and smart jewelry that enable one to track items and products. Examples include smart keychains, smart bike tags, and mini GPS devices.

IoT User Interface: Companies that produce connected devices that offer new ways to view and control other devices. Examples include virtual reality systems, vibrating couches, and motion-controlled interfaces.

IoT Utilities and Energy: Companies that produce connected devices that help measure and manage energy and utilities usage. Examples include energy usage monitors, smart sprinklers, and oilfield data management solutions.
