Carbon3D made a big splash last week by unveiling a new printing technique that is anywhere from 25 – 100 times faster than current means. Similar to SLA, the technology works by using light and oxygen to cure a photosensitive resin, however that’s where the similarities end. Unlike SLA that prints layer-by-layer, Carbon3D can print much faster by using oxygen as the inhibiting agent (oxygen creates a deadzone) and light to cure the resin. Aside from the obvious speed factor, this method could mean better integrity for printed products and broader commercial applications.
